The Association of Corporate Counsel Credentialing Institute is the credentialing arm of the Association of Corporate Counsel.
Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC)
The Association of Corporate Counsel is a global legal association that promotes the common professional and business interests of in-house counsel who work for corporations, associations and other organizations through information, education, networking, and advocacy. With more than 43,000 members in 85 countries employed by over 10,000 organizations, ACC connects its members to the people and resources necessary for both personal and professional growth. By in-house counsel, for in-house counsel.®
Association of Corporate Counsel Credentialing Institute (the Institute)
The mandate of the Institute is two-fold: 1) to set standards to advance the in-house practice of law, and 2) to provide the education and training necessary to meet those standards. In fulfilling this mandate, the Institute leverages the decades of experience that the broader ACC organization enjoys.
The Institute’s inaugural offering is the ACC In-house Counsel Certification Program, which launched April 30, 2018 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This program originated with a request from the Government of Dubai to offer a credential that, across the world, would signal proficiency in critical areas of the in-house practice. The Government of Dubai continues to be an active supporter of the certification program.
The Institute contemplates expanding its certification activities to other locations around the world. In addition to certification—which is a credential that applies to individuals—the Institute plans to offer an accreditation scheme that would apply to entire law departments. The Institute’s accreditation activities are in development.
The ACC In-house Counsel Certification Program
The ACC In-house Counsel Certification Program awards the In-house Counsel Certified (ICC) designation to successful participants. To ensure training would incorporate the highest standards of professional excellence, the curriculum for the certification program was developed under the guidance of an advisory group. Members of this group—the ACC Education Advisory Council (EAC)—are leading practitioners from a diverse cross-section of industries.
